About This Piece
Houseboats, jet skis, and powerboats, traverse Shuswap Lake throughout the summer. It’s 400 KM shoreline is dotted with sunseekers, enjoying the numerous beaches and docks. Found just beyond its shoreline though is what is truly meant by the license plate slogan ‘Beautiful British Columbia’. Here, with only a short walk you’d find a slice of ‘Serenity’ as you immerse yourself in the endless and untouched forest nearby.
Capturing this image, I’m reminded of the wildlife who live here. Looking up I imagine eagles soaring over my head, and sockeye salmon spawning closeby. The brush, quiet now, is likely frequented by animals like sheep, deer, moose, wolves, foxes, coyotes, grizzly and black bears.
Today, as I stand here, everything is calm. For this moment, I have this space all to myself – even the critters of the forest give me time. The many branches, although dead and broken, still seem harmonious. Here, this landscape, while somewhat haphazard, is so clearly, part of nature’s bigger and more meaningful plan. Here, there’s no symmetry, no consistency, and yet, even still it’s so incredibly beautiful.
Here, I love the vibrant green of the forest. The lichen, moss, and brush are alive with colour. The flowing water is delicate and unassuming. The image is so crisp and so clear it offers a true sense of depth. With only one step forward, it seems one could enter the photography and enter this place of ‘Serenity’.
