Pacific Dreaming

Along the shores of Vancouver, I paced the beach, searching for the perfect vantage point. The night before, I had scouted the area and found the ideal shot, but the rocks I hoped to capture were submerged by the tide. Fortunately, today, the tide was 40 minutes behind schedule, leaving the rocks exposed just as I had hoped. Excited, I set up my camera, ready for another dramatic Pacific sunset.

Vancouver’s temperate climate often brings stunning sunsets, each offering something unique. In fact, no two sunsets are ever the same. The colors, light, and atmosphere constantly shift, making every one feel special. As a result, I always look forward to experiencing sunsets from different spots around the city. Each one reveals a new perspective of Vancouver’s natural beauty, keeping me inspired and eager for more.

For this photograph, I quickly captured several shots as the tide, lighting, and rocks aligned perfectly. Ultimately, I used a 10-minute exposure for the final image, which created a misty effect around the rocks. This long exposure softened the waves, transforming the scene into a serene masterpiece. Moreover, the fog-like quality added a sense of calm, allowing me to preserve a peaceful moment that might have otherwise slipped away.

Above, the Pacific sky glowed in soft pinks, blending seamlessly with the calm water below. The rocks, shaped in a crescent, added harmony to the scene. Reflecting on their rounded shape, I thought about how nature had shaped them over centuries. The tides had polished them, smoothing their surfaces. Indeed, they reminded me of ancient stone circles, evoking a sense of timelessness.

As I stood there, watching the sunset unfold, my mind wandered. The beauty of Vancouver’s coastline sparked my imagination. On that night, as the sun set, I found myself dreaming. The peaceful landscape captured my thoughts and transported me to another place.
